30 Jul Ultimate Frisbee Tournament
Three boys’ divisions and two girls’ divisions, filled with 37 teams: the largest Auckland Schools Ultimate tournament held to date.
On 26th July, 25 of our hard-working players arrived at their first tournament of the year.
Our Pakuranga 1 boys worked hard all day in the Championship division for a podium finish to better their efforts from last year. After a hard loss in the semi finals to Auckland Grammar and an unfortunate upset in the second semi final game, the boys came up against old rivals Westlake for a second time during the day. In the end, Westlake could not be bested. However, the boys left with their heads held high, with new goals and drive to improve and a position of 4th out of 23.
For all but three of our girls, this was their first time playing against other schools ever! The girls played valiantly all day, and even though they didn’t manage to come away with a win, they had some close games. The experience gained will go under their belts to prepare for the years to come.
Our Pakuranga 2 boys had never played as a team together until their first game today. They went on to beat every team in their pool, and managed a 2nd place finish in the cup division to Western Springs 2. Phenomenal work from a team of just 6 players, all of whom have had less then 6 months of exposure to the sport.
Huge thanks to our teachers Mr Dama and Ms Worboys for their endless support all day, and to the parents who came out to support the teams. Your loud cheers and spirit were greatly appreciated!
