The Environmental Council is gearing up for an exciting project! They’re getting their hands dirty to grow seasonal vegetables and flowers in the college’s garden nursery to promote pollinators. Earlier this term, over 30 volunteers joined them during lunchtime to prepare the garden beds, which was a fantastic show of support!

Currently, they’re researching which seasonal plants will thrive in our environment and applying for sponsorship to purchase seeds and seedlings. The council is also in need of more cardboard to act as weed mats once the soil is ready, if you have any spare cardboard to support this please email bar@pakuranga.school.nz.

In addition to their gardening efforts, students also took the initiative to remove moth plants from around the school. They collected a large bag of pods and another bag and a half of vines! Some students have even signed up for a competition run by the Howick Local Board to collect as many moth pods and vines as possible in their own time. Ka pai Environmental Council!
