19 Jun Wearable Arts Show
On Friday 24th May, three groups of Fabric Technology students from Pakuranga College entered the inter-school Wearable Arts Competition at Botany Downs College. The students began the planning stages of their garments in Term 1, week 6, meeting every week to refine and work on their designs.
Anuchka Taljaard entered the ‘Reclaim to Fame’ category with a garment titled ‘The Beauty of Recycling’. Anuchka’s garment was created out of plastic bags, newspaper, foil and plastic bottles. Her inspiration was the song ‘We Love the Earth’.
Stacey Erasmus also entered the ‘Reclaim to Fame’ category using a mixture of ‘thrown away items’, such as tin cans, plastic bags and old clothing. She titled her garment ‘Thrown Away Purple’.
Eden Smith and Maniah Waihape collaborated together to create a beautiful origami paper garment inspired by water, lily pads and koi fish. Their garment was entered into the ‘Out Of This World’ category.
With many hours spent on designing, constructing and rehearsing, it all came together on the packed-out show night, which was a magical evening full of music, dance and art. The girls are very much looking forward to competing again next year, with hopefully more students being inspired to enter as well.
