First Whānau Hui of the year a success!

15 Mar First Whānau Hui of the year a success!

Earlier this month  our Māori Student leaders and the Māori Development team held the first Whānau Hui of the year.

The team welcomed whānau, staff and Board members to the hui which focused on an opportunity to whakawhanaungatanga/make connections. Student leaders Reigan Popata-Williams, Tamelane Hemopo, Austin McDermit and Dennette Blandford organised and ran the evening. Whānau mixed and mingled as the leaders gathered everyone into groups and engaged in games to get to know each other. There was a strong element of competition in the room – indicated by the level of noise as teams demonstrated their speed of thought and knowledge of te reo Māori.

Of course, no hui would be complete without a wonderful spread of kai to share and eat.

At the end of the evening our Te Tai o Pakuranga Kapa Haka group performed a Haka to the Māori Student Leadership team to honour them for their mahi.

A big thank you to all who came along and participated with enthusiasm. If you missed out, the next Whānau Hui will be on Tuesday 23 May.
