Dance Students Explore Identity

18 May Dance Students Explore Identity

We had a fantastic opportunity for senior Dance students to attend the school matinee show Ko Au – Disconnected, hosted by Pasifika Dance Festival 2023 and Auckland Live.

Ko Au, which means “I Am”, was inspired by the personal stories and diverse traditions of dancers from the Auckland-based Hip Hop and Street Dance collective Project Team. The dancers used cultural and street dance language interwoven in contemporary ideas to highlight some of the struggles they have with finding their own identities.

Ko Au developed students’ understanding of culture and identity with a deeply thought-out, unique approach to each story. The performance was relevant and relatable to our students in a variety of ways and inspired students to be proud of and embrace all parts of their identity and culture.
