This year, as a member of the Howick Youth Council (HYC), I have the privilege of serving as a School Seat at Pakūranga College and being part of the Communications Team. Last week, members of HYC ran Youth Week at schools across East Auckland, including Pakūranga College.
Throughout the week, we organised activities that brought students together and created a positive atmosphere around the school. On Monday, we served hot chocolate before school to help students start their morning warmly. On Wednesday and Thursday, we ran karaoke sessions, which were my favourite events because it was amazing to see students step out of their comfort zones, sing with their friends, and support one another. To finish off the week, Friday’s multisport activities showcased teamwork, participation, and school spirit.
Alongside activities like the Kindness Wall, Youth Week was a great opportunity to celebrate student voice, inclusivity, wellbeing, and connection within our school community.
