Chapter 1: The Gunshot..

A silent night turns to horror. A gunshot can be heard from next door, and a girl called Zoey wakes up in fright as she peeks through the curtains and spots her neighbor dragging a big black garbage bag into his van. She calls 111, and they arrive in seconds searching the house for clues.

“Find anything?” says Alex.

“We found several traces of gunpowder in the living room and some blood in the bedroom on a mirror,” says Maya, “Seems like the victim was fighting back, the culprit banged the victims head on the mirror and left.”

“I’ll run it for DNA right away!”.

The detectives also find the murder weapon hidden under the couch.

“Hey guys, I found the murder weapon!” says Liam.

“Why would the killer leave the murder weapon behind? Doesn’t he know we can just run it for fingerprints?” says Maya.

“Or he’s choosing to get caught for some reason,” says Tina.

“Whatever the reason may be, we have to find him!” says Alex.

Then, they take Zoey to the police station to interview her.

“So did you find anything suspicious about your neighbor?” says Tina.

“Well when he moved here, he seemed friendly – but he’s quiet and he lives alone. One day, I heard a gunshot. I thought he was watching TV, but I kept hearing gunshots over and over again!” says Zoey.

“So it’s been happening for a while but did you tell anyone? Parents?” asks Tina.

“My dad left me to go get milk and my mom works 19 hours a day at the hospital so I only see her in the morning for a few hours.”

“Why didn’t you call the police?”

“I thought I was being paranoid and I was imagining things but this time I knew something was up so I called you guys.”

Alex, Maya, and Liam are watching and listening to the conversation through the other side of the glass.

“Why wouldn’t she tell someone about this? She has every right to be suspicious!” says Alex.

“She probably was scared of something, or she didn’t care much of it,” says Liam.

“Do you know the guy’s license plates or any other info about him?” says Tina.

“I know his first name is Mike and his license number is 9k1lL8. That’s all I know,” Zoey says.

“That’s great! Thanks for the help Zoey.” Tina walks out of the room.

“We got part of a name and a license plate! We’ll catch this guy in no time,” says Tina.

“The DNA results have come back,” says Alex.

“Mike Davis, 23, has a criminal record of kidnapping and murder, he owns a white delivery van with the license plates 9k1lL8. This is our guy!” says Liam. “The DNA results match with the fingerprints on the gun,” says Maya.

“Then we have our guy! Also his license plates spell… Kill,” says Alex.

Chapter 2: The Investigation

They send squads out looking for Mike, and the city is filled with sirens and flashing lights. They pinpoint his last known location at the Bay Side Mall.

“Everyone in position?” Alex asks. Everyone replies with a “Yes!”

Alex is in disguise sitting in a café, while Maya and Liam are walking around the mall. Tina is watching the entrances of the mall through the security cameras.

“He walked into the mall. I repeat, he’s in the mall!” says Tina.

“I see him, I’m going in,” Maya says. Maya causally follows Mike as he goes into a café talking to a man wearing a black hoodie.

Alex eavesdrops and hears something about a boss and targets, Mike then walks away and Alex follows Mike. Maya and Liam follow the hooded guy. Maya and Liam watch as the hooded guy walks into the bathroom so Liam goes in after him. As soon as the hooded guy comes out of his stall Liam starts tackling him and trying to put on handcuffs! But the culprit escapes and runs outside! He runs into his van and drives away with Maya and Liam in hot pursuit! Meanwhile in the mall Alex sees Mike leaving so he takes the chance and handcuffs Mike! But he kicks Alex and runs on the escalator! Mike tries to jump off the third floor but Alex catches him and handcuffs him.

The sirens are blaring loudly as Liam is driving fast and furious trying to catch up to the hooded guy, the guy goes through multiple signals and starts shooting at them!

“Keep the car steady!” says Maya, as she pokes her head out of the car and shoots at the tires. The van spins and flips over! They walk towards the van but no one’s inside. They hear revving, and as they turn around they see a Lamborghini getting ready to go. The Lambo charges towards Liam and Maya, but they jump out of the way and the culprit gets away!

They talk to the others on comms.

“The hooded guy got away,” Liam says.

“Don’t worry! We got Mike, I’m taking him back to the station” Alex replies.

At the station Tina and Alex question him, but he only answers a few of them.

“Who do you work for?” Alex asks.

“I ain’t telling.”

“What was in those garbage bags?” asks Tina.

“Find out yourself.”

“How long have you been at this for? Do you kill for sport? Or do you have a boss and you do the dirty work?” Tina continues.

“I get told to kill targets, sometimes I kill people myself.”

They walk out of the interrogation room.

“So we know that he kills for the money and the boss stays in the shadows” says Alex.

“Definitely to keep his hands clean and avoid being caught, must be a big guy,” Tina replies.

The others arrive at the police station. “Any info?” says Maya.

“We got some info but we need more… we also need the name of the targets so we can save them” says Alex.

“Keep interrogating Mike and find a way to negotiate with him, we need to know who his boss is and the targets,” says Liam.

Chapter 3: Who’s the Boss?

“Is there any sort of reason why you’re not telling us who your boss is? Is he threatening you or…?” asks Tina.

“I chose to join him, for the money.”

“You like money, huh?” asks Alex.

“Yes…you gotta work for the money, stealing money is useless in my opinion.”

Alex and Tina walk outside.

“We could negotiate with money, he seems desperate,” Tina says.

“True but what if he gives us false information?” Alex says.

“Then he will be charged for perjury,” Tina continues.

“We’ll give it a shot!” Alex says with confidence. They walk back into the interrogation room.

“We have a deal for you Mike, it’s pretty good!” says Tina sarcastically.

“If you help us find your boss, or if you tell us who your boss is we will let you free, but if you lie to us then you will be charged for perjury and you will be sent to jail,” says Alex.

“Fine by me, now give me the money,” says Mike.

“We will give you the money once you tell us where he is,” says Alex.

“Then I‘m not telling you” says Mike.

“Ugh, this guy is infuriating! What do we do?” whispers Tina.

“We will have to trust he tells us the truth then” whispers Alex.

Suddenly, Maya bursts into the room. “Guys, we found something you’re gonna need to see!”

“Tina, stay here. Watch Mike and continue questioning him,” says Alex.

“We decided to look through the van to see what he was hauling and guess what we found? Bodies!” Maya continues.

“I figured he would be hauling bodies, he would need to bury them to get rid of evidence” says Alex.

As they open the bags and look inside they see one of the bags moving, so Alex opens the bag and sees a young boy with a gunshot in his chest!

“Ambulance! Take this kid to the hospital!” shouts Alex.

They take the boy to the hospital and he’s barely alive in the ICU. “He’s stable, good thing the bullet didn’t hit his lungs or his heart that would’ve been fatal,” says Doctor Williams.

“It’s a miracle this kid’s still alive!” Alex replies.

“He will recover soon and the kids’ parents are on the way,” says Doctor Williams.

Chapter 4: Targets Acquired

Alex comes back to the station where the others are.

“We have to find Mike’s targets! We can help them!” says Maya.

“How? Mike told us little information!” says Liam.

“To be honest, I feel like he would give us false info. But we just have to negotiate with Mike and hope for the best” says Alex.

They watch Tina and Mike through the glass.

“I will give you the money. Now tell me, who is your boss’s next target?” Tina gives him the money.

“Sarah Brendin, you figure out the rest.”

“Sarah Brendin, 28, an accountant who lives with her husband and two kids in an apartment in the city numbered 9/14,” says Liam.

“I’ll stay behind,” says Tina.

“Let’s go!” says Maya.

They arrive at the apartment and they knock on the door. The door creaks open and they take their guns out, walking inside with an eerie feeling.

“Hello? Anyone here?” says Liam.

Maya walks into the kitchen only to find Sarah dead on the floor. “We were too late…” says Maya sadly. They call the family and tell them about the incident.

Meanwhile at the station, Tina is watching Mike as he stares at her weirdly.

“Do you miss your father?” says Mike creepily.

“I never knew my father, he left me when I was young. Why?”

“I know how that feels.. Your family leaving you and you’re all by yourself.” He stands up and walks around Tina. “I know your dad, and he’s got a big job right now.”

“How do you know my dad?”

“His name is Richard Hawkings right?”

Tina is in shock as she hears her father’s name. “H-how do you!?- What’s his “big” job!” asks Tina, surprised.

“Killing.” As Mike stares at her the lights flicker and go out. Tina freezes in her tracks, but continues to talk to Mike. Then, she feels a breath behind her, and Mike starts choking her! Tina fights back and runs outside and locks the door and she falls to the floor, curled up in a ball catching her breath.

They drive back to the station to give the bad news but the lights are out. “What the heck? Why are the lights out?” says Liam.

“I checked the backup generator, it’s not working!” says Maya.

Then, a police officer comes running in “Officers, come upstairs quick!”

They run upstairs and look out the window only to see the city blacked out, and no light to be seen for miles!

“The electricity is gone!” says Maya.

“Cell service is also not working, someone must have cut the power lines or something!” Liam says.

“Get tech support, we need to find the source of the power outage! Wait, has anyone seen Tina?” says Maya.

“I think she’s still in the interrogation room, I’ll go check.” Liam walks to the room and sees Tina on the floor shivering. “TINA! Are you okay!? Speak to me!” Liam goes into the room only to find Mike gone! Liam comms everyone “THIS IS AN EMERGENCY! WE NEED ALL UNITS AFTER MIKE HE’S ESCAPED! I REPEAT I NEED ALL UNITS AFTER MIKE!”

Chapter 5: Bigger Problems

Police yet again search for Mike in the pitch black city. “Tech support’s here!” says Maya.

The tech guy goes into the server room and looks through the computer.

“How are you gonna fix this?” asks Alex.

“Well, the only explanation for this is a virus. No one can actually turn off power unless a power outage happens or a lightning strike. I will run the system for the virus and get rid of it with a kill code,” says the tech guy. While they’re fixing the power outage, Liam is asking Tina what happened.

“H-he knew my dad…” says Tina in a weak voice.

“It’s okay, we’ll find him, but did he say anything about your father?”

“He said that his job was killing…”

Liam realizes something important so he runs back to where the others are. “I know who Mike’s boss is!” says Liam.

“Who?” asks Maya.

“Richard Hawkings…”

Everyone shouts “WHAT!?” Then Tina walks in. “That explains why I never got to see my father ever in my life. It’s because he’s a killer.” Tina becomes emotional.

“It’s okay Tina, we got your back!” says Liam, comforting her.

“Well we know who he is, we can track him and arrest him!” says Alex.

“But our systems are still down, and who knows what he’s up to!” says Maya.

“Tina, do you know where your father lives?” asks Liam.

“Last time I saw him I’m pretty sure he lived in Brooklyn on an estate.”

“I found the virus! It’s getting deleted as we speak! The power should be back any second now.” The power switches on and the city is bright once again. Suddenly they get a call and Tina picks up the phone. “Hello?”

“Hello! Please help me!” says a scared girl.

“Who is this? Do you know where you are?”

“He’s coming! PLEASE HELP-” All Tina can hear is heavy breathing, then the call disconnects.

“What was that?” asks Maya.

“Someone’s been kidnapped.. TRACE THE CALL! NOW!” shouts Tina.

They trace the call out in Brooklyn.

“Richard! Let’s arrest him!” Alex says.

“Wait a second, can you replay the call?” asks Tina.

Liam replays the call and Tina realizes something. “That sounds like.. Zoey-” says Tina.

“You mean the girl who we interviewed earlier on?” says Maya.

“Exactly! I think she made that call! She must be one of the targets!” Tina continues.

“Why would she be a target though?” asks Alex.

“Probably Richard found out that Zoey knows something is up, so why not kidnap her?” says Maya.

“Or Richard has something against Zoey,” says Liam

“Just like the other targets…” says Alex.

They drive to the estate and units surround the house with their guns pointed at the building. An officer breaks down the door using a ram and Tina, Alex, Maya, and Liam split up to look for Zoey and Richard. Alex and Tina look at each other as they see weapons in a crate in a bedroom and Maya and Liam find a basement. They slowly tread down the stairs, an edgy feeling giving them shivers down their spine.

They try switching on the lights but all there is are sparks of electricity, Maya then accidentally trips on something.

“Ow! What was that!?” says Maya. She turns on her light on her phone and sees a dead body.

“Liam, look at this!” says Maya.

“Oh my God.” says Liam.

Tina and Alex see a locked door, they kick down the door and see Richard! Alex quickly grabs him and cuffs him.

“Richard Hawkings, you are under arrest for murder!” says Alex.

“I DIDN’T DO ANYTHING, I SWEAR!” shouts Richard.

“Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law!” Alex continues.

“I’M BEING FRAMED!”

“Oh really? Tell that to someone who believes you!” says Tina.

Chapter 6: A Fight in Court

“We got Richard,” says Alex.

“We haven’t found Zoey yet, we searched his house top to bottom” says Maya.

“Weird…” says Liam.

A few days pass and it’s time for a battle in court. Hazel Quinly is fighting for the prosecution, and Toby Willburt is fighting for the defendant.

“The defendant please be seated on the podium” says the judge.

“Mr Hawkings, before the police came into your home what were you doing?” asks Hazel.

“I was sitting in my room,” says Richard.

“Why was there a dead body in your house?”

“I don’t know.”

“How could you not know!? It’s not like the body magically appeared in your basement! You’d have to be stupid to not know!”

“Your honor, aggression!” says Toby.

“Let me rephrase, how could you not know?”

“I was minding my own business, and I heard a noise. I couldn’t be bothered checking so I left it.”

“We found your DNA on the dead body and on the victims in the van, how is that possible?”

“Like I said, I’m being framed!”

“Nothing further.”

Then Toby comes up and says “When police searched your house they found a small window in the basement, do you agree someone could have planted the body there?”

“Yes.”

“Nothing further your honour.”

Hazel then gets up.

“Your honour, if the body was supposedly planted there, how could there be fingerprints on the body unless he touched it? Also, the dead body is Eli Brown. Do you recognise him?”

“Umm…”

“Of course you do because Eli was your friend! Is that true?”

“Yes we were friends when I was working in HQ.” The lawyers continue presenting in front of the jury when the judge orders for a recess. The court resumes the following day for the jury’s decision.

The court resumes the following morning and the jury is called to give their verdict.

“What does the defendant plead on the count of second degree murder?” asks the judge.

“Guilty” says the jury.

“Then Richard Hawkings is hereby sentenced to 10 years in prison, the case is closed!”

Then she bangs the hammer. As Richard walks out with the guards Tina gives him an angry look.

As everyone is happy to have caught the murderer Tina looks upset “Tina I know you’re upset, but your father’s a killer.” Alex says.

“I know, but something doesn’t add up…”

“What do you mean?”

“Well when we found the body, there was a gunshot on his head, but there was no blood, not to mention the window being opened from the outside which isn’t possible… and we didn’t find Zoey, which is weird! She was abducted-”

“What are you getting at?”

“I think my father was framed…”

Tina walks into the prison and talks to her dad.

“Hey dad.. I haven’t seen you in a while.”

“I missed you, but I can’t believe I’m seeing you through the other side of a cell.”

“Dad.. tell me the truth” Richard pauses and gives a long sigh.

“The reason why I couldn’t see you all these years was to protect you..” says Richard. “Who were you protecting me from?” asks Tina.

“I worked for some bad people, but didn’t realise the mess I was in. Until everything fell apart and I had to go into hiding.”

“Why did he kill your friend?”

“Eli was visiting me, then my boss mistook Eli for me and my only friend lost his life because of me. I was supposed to die. I didn’t know what to do so I just went into my bedroom to calm down and when I came back the body was gone but I was only gone for a few minutes. I got scared. If I called the police, there was nothing I could say since the body was gone. I didn’t realise until you guys discovered the body hidden in the basement.”

“Why didn’t you tell anyone? Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I was afraid that if I told anyone he would kill me, or he would go after you.. so, I hid all these years just to protect you and now I’m in prison because of him.”

“What’s your boss’s name?”

“I actually don’t know. He never told me but I overheard someone talking to my boss and his first name is Jake.”

“Thanks for the help dad, I promise I will get you out of here!” Tina runs back to the main room and she asks her pals to look through files of mafia boss’s and highly wanted criminals.

“I looked through the system, there’s no one with the name Jake who worked at HQ and is a criminal” says Liam.

“How is that possible!?” Alex says.

“Jake is probably his alias.” says Tina.

“Great so now we’re back to square one!” Alex says.

“Why don’t we go to HQ and look through records of every boss that’s worked there?” suggests Maya.

They arrive at HQ and look through dozens of files until they find a file in particular “Jake Hudson… this has to be it” says Alex.

“I looked through the database and it turns out Jake Hudson is in fact his alias but he keeps changing names – apparently his actual name is Paul Campbell. He lives in Brooklyn in an estate on 6th avenue,” says Liam.

“That’s pretty close to where Richard lives,” says Tina.

“Let’s get him!” says Maya.

They drive to his house and surround the building. They ring the doorbell to try and draw out Paul but no one answers the door. They burst into the house and Maya hears whimpering and she runs into the living room and she sees Zoey crying with scars all over her, and she’s bleeding in the arm.

“Zoey! Are you okay?”

Zoey continues to cry and just as she’s about to help her up Maya gets shot in the back! Liam runs into the room and sees Maya on the floor!

Alex runs into the room tackling Paul! But Paul punches him in the face and he grabs Zoey and he rushes to his car and escapes!

“Maya!”

“Get Zoey! I’ll be fine…”

Liam picks up Maya and puts her in his car and they chase after Paul! Tina keeps trying to shoot Paul’s car but he keeps dodging and drifting! He cuts through an alleyway and comes out to the other side of the block, Alex follows him through the other side and he blocks his path. Paul’s car skids and crashes into a building! Everyone surrounds him with their guns out, and Paul gets out with a gun to Zoey’s head!

“DROP YOUR GUNS NOW!”

“Let Zoey go! Or we’ll shoot!” shouts Liam, then Paul pulls Zoey in front of him using her as a shield!

“DO IT OR I’LL SHOOT HER BRAINS OUT!” Zoey whimpers in fear.

Chapter 7: All’s Well That Ends Well

They keep talking to Paul, stalling him, suddenly a sniper from a building shoots Paul clean in the head and he falls to the ground! Zoey runs to Liam and hugs him. Police arrive and take his body. Maya and Zoey go to the hospital and are fine. They find Mike and put him in prison and Richard is freed. Alex, Maya, Liam and Tina decide to hang out after their work and they celebrate their victory of stopping one of the biggest and worst mafia bosses out there.

“Cheers to stopping a mafia boss!” says Alex.

Everyone says cheers as they clink their drinks!

“That was a wild ride!” says Maya.

“No doubt about that! I’m happy we stopped a mafia boss!” says Liam.

“I agree!” says Tina happily.

“Just another day as a police officer!” says Alex.
