Two Pakuranga College students, synchronised skaters Sophie Jennings (Year 11) and Caitlin Rae (Year 13), gave stunning performances at the New Zealand Ice Figure Skating Championships in Dunedin earlier this month.

Their team, Titanium, scored 102.16 points including 54 technical points, an incredible result that makes them eligible for the Junior World Championships in Switzerland in March 2024, the first-ever New Zealand team to qualify for this event. To qualify for international competition teams need at least 60 points including 52 technical points, so the girls have already set an impressive benchmark.

During September, Sophie and Caitlin also competed in the 2023 Sydney Synchronised Festival where they placed 3rd, against other teams from New South Wales and Victoria in the Junior division. The team scored 76.07 points in that competition with 39 coming from their technical component, so are already delivering improved scores in the lead-up to worlds. The girls are currently practising over 10 hours a week at Paradise Ice Skating in Botany and will be putting more hours in as the countdown to worlds continues.

Congratulations Sophie and Caitlin!
