Hockey
Congratulations to Nīkau student, Julius Sailer, who has helped his Auckland U18 Men’s team to 1st place at the National Under 18 Hockey Championships for the second year in a row! A special mention to our Director of Sport, Clive Daniels, who coached the team – what a winning combination!
Also representing Pakūranga College at the national level were:
  •  Ashley Simango – competing in the Auckland A Girls’ team (5th)
  •  Finn Miller – competing in the Auckland B Boys’ team (12th)

Ultimate Frisbee
Our Ultimate Frisbee girls smashed it at the College Sport Indoor Ultimate Championships! Our A team placed 1st, with awesome results:
  • 20–0 vs BDSC White
  • 12–3 vs Baradene
  • 7–4 vs Takapuna
  • 12–2 vs Selwyn
  • 8–6 vs BDSC Sky
  • 19–1 vs Mt Albert Grammar
  • 7–6 vs Selwyn Black
  • And a final win over Epsom Girls’ Grammar to take the title!
And our Junior team placed 7th overall, picking up solid wins like:
  • 7–4 vs Mt Albert Grammar
  • 13–3 vs BDSC Maroon
To top it all off, the A team also won the Spirit Award, voted by all other teams, for showing not just skill, but awesome sportsmanship too. Congratulations everyone!
Karate
Huge congratulations to Rimu student, Roshen Pawuruthota Acharige, who represented Auckland Karate at the 2025 New Zealand  Open and National School Karate Championships in Christchurch! Roshen competed with Auckland Wadokai and delivered incredible results:
  • Silver – U16 Kata (National Schools)
  • Silver – 14–15 Kata (NZ Open)
  • Silver – 14–17 Team Kumite (NZ Open)
  • 4th – 14–15 Kumite (NZ Open)
With only 14 athletes, their club brought home 15 gold, 11 silver, and 13 bronze medals, equalling the highest gold medal tally of the tournament! Ka rawe Roshen, we’re so proud of your dedication and success on the national stage!
Cross Country
There’s just no stopping Leah Marais, who delivered an outstanding performance at the NZSS Cross Country Championships in the Junior Girls’ 3000m, placing 5th out of 61 runners with an impressive time of 11:26! Ka pai!
Swimming
Well done to Maeve McDonnell for her incredible achievements at the recent HPK Swimming Club Prizegiving! Maeve’s dedication and hard work in the pool earned her a slew of awards, including:
  • Club Champs Medalist
  • National Representative
  • Most Improved (Squad Development)
  • Open Water Swimmer of the Year
  • Senior Female Swimmer of the Year
What an amazing season, Maeve, we’re so proud of you!
Netball
A big shoutout to our amazing netballers who competed at the North Island Junior Netball Championships in New Plymouth from June 29 – July 1!
Chloe White (Year 10) and Sienna Davies (Year 9), played in the Howick Pakūranga U14 A team, taking out 3rd place after some dominant wins:
  • Beat Manawatū 37–14
  • Beat Taranaki 33–11
  • Beat Pukekohe 28–18
  • Beat Tauranga 28–18
  • Beat Pukekohe A 31–12
  • Finished with a thrilling 33–31 win over Waitākere to secure 3rd!
Year 12 student, Hanna Tua, represented the Auckland U16 1 team, finishing 5th overall with some incredible results:
  • Beat Tauranga 32–24
  • Beat Hamilton City 49–17
  • Beat North Harbour 23–18
  • Beat Kapi Mana 32–22
  • Finished strong with a 24–20 win over North Harbour to claim 5th place!

Taekwondo

Kauri students, Kevin and Sienna Edwards had amazing success at the 2025 ITFNZ Auckland Regional Tournament! Kevin competed for the first time in the junior division (15-17 year olds) as a black belt and got the following results:

  • Gold – Sparring
  • Bronze – Special Technique
  • Bronze – Power Breaking

Sienna competed in her first tournament as a 5th gup (blue stripe), and learnt her new pattern in three weeks! Her results were:

  • Gold – Patterns
  • Gold – Sparring

Next up for them both is the New Zealand Nationals in August – best of luck!
