Premier Girls
Congratulations to the Premier Girls’ Basketball team, who finished Top 3 in the Central/East/West Zone Season. They won 46-36 against Auckland Seventh-Day Adventist High School and 43-28 against Avondale College in their final games, which earned them their 3rd place position.
This placing earned the team a spot in the Greater Auckland Championships, where the girls claimed the title of 3rd in Greater Auckland! This group improved with every game throughout the tournament, showing resilience, determination, and a commitment to getting better every time they stepped on court.
A tough semi-final against eventual champions Howick College saw the girls battle all the way to the final whistle, finishing just 9 points behind after one of their strongest performances of the tournament.
They backed it up in the 3rd place playoff against Long Bay College, coming out firing to take a 13-point lead into halftime. Long Bay fought hard in the third quarter to close the gap, but our girls dug deep, stayed composed, and held strong to secure a 5-point victory and finish 3rd in Greater Auckland!
We couldn’t be prouder of this team’s effort, resilience, and commitment to continuous improvement.
Premier Boys
Our Premier Boys’ Basketball team ended their season with a bang! On 11 August, our boys played their last game of the season against Marcellin College and won 68-26! What a great way to end!
Football
1st XI Boys
Our 1st XI Boys’ Football team wrapped up their season on 21 August. They had an epic 4–0 victory over Onehunga High School to close out an incredible season, landing 2nd on the A3 table, just one point behind 1st. The team had the best goalscoring record and best defensive record in the league, were unbeaten at home and had just one defeat all season.
We are so proud of this team! Thank you to coach, Mr Sharp, for his incredible dedication.
1st XI Girls
Our 1st XI Girls’ Football team ended their season on a high! On 19 August, our girls played their last home game against Northcote College and claimed a 3-1 victory. The team are now preparing for Tournament Week at Waikaraka Park – good luck team!
Rugby
Ka pai tō mahi, Kaeden Evaroa, on your selection for the U18 Auckland Divisional rugby team! This is the result of continuous hard work and dedication from Kaeden, and an exciting opportunity. The college is so proud – we are backing you all the way.
Taekwondo
Kevin Edwards of Kauri Whānau competed for the Counties Manukau team at the ITFNZ Taekwondo National Tournament in Hamilton last weekend.
Kevin was up against tough competition in the Junior Black Belt 1st-3rd Dan division and managed to out-jump and out-spar some really good competition, claiming 2nd in Sparring and 3rd in Special Techniques!
Now, Kevin is preparing to represent New Zealand at the ITF World Cup next month in Spain! Congratulations and best of luck for your world cup training!
Netball
On Wednesday 5 August, Pakūranga College sent our Premier Girls’ team, Year 10 Amethyst and Year 9 Emerald, to the Auckland Netball Combined Points Tournament. The teams showed strong teamwork and pushed themselves the whole day!
Year 9 Emerald came 1st in their pool and qualified for the quarter-finals! In pool play, they won 17-8 against Takapuna Grammar, 20-15 against Whangārei Girls’ High School, 17-4 against Waikato Diocesan, and 16-15 against Saint Kentigern College; they also drew 15-15 with St Cuthbert’s College. This was one of the strongest performances from a Pakūranga College Junior team in several years!
Year 10 Amethyst came 2nd in their pool and were undefeated at the tournament! The team won 16-9 against Cambridge High School, 18-12 against Carmel College and 21-4 against Tamaki College. They drew with Macleans College and Aquinas College.
A massive thank you to the umpires, Jennie, Myieshah, and Mishka, and coaches, Chrissy, Kylie, Ben, and Miss Cumberland for Premier Girls; Joss and Jo for Amethyst; and Rosie and Morgan for Emerald.
Year 9 Emerald
After a successful first half of the season, the Year 9 Emerald team moved into the Year 9 A grade, section 2. They are undefeated this season. They have already had a 25-22 win against St Mary’s, 37-22 against Macleans Red, 39-19 against Marist Kowhai, and 25-23 against Howick Year 9 B.
Year 10 Amethyst
Year 10 Amethyst has won 31-20 against McAuley Year 10 B, drew 28 with Otahuhu White, won 45-22 against Diocesan Year 10 B, and won 43-20 against Baradene Year 10 B. The girls finished the season first equal with Otahuhu College.
Cheerleading
The team came 1st in the Grade 3 Scholastic Division and were also named Scholastic Grand Champions against all the other school teams at the competition!
Next up, the team take on Cheerbrandz Spring Carnival in just a few weeks. Let’s keep the momentum going!

End of Season Results
Hockey season has come to an end for our 2nd XI Girls’, Junior Girls’ and Junior Boys’ teams. All players worked super hard this season and showed amazing growth!
The Pakūranga College Junior Boys’ team landed top of their grade, beating Mt Roskill Grammar School 2-1 in their final game for 1st place! Nicely done, boys!
Our 2nd XI Girls’ team finished 4th in their grade, after an awesome run this season, and our Junior Girls’ team placed 5th in their grade, beating St Cuthbert’s College 2-0 in their last game!
