The annual Shadow a Head Student Day was held on Monday 19 October. Year 9 students Zane Chaplin, Narissa Randen, and Olive Tainui spent the day following Abi Robertson, Kaeden Evaroa, Joseph Trembath, and Moanna Tanuvasa, learning what it looks like to be a Head Student at Pakūranga College.

The Junior students started the day by raising the flag, before following Head Students to their classes. They enjoyed witnessing first-hand the differences between a Year 13 class environment and their usual classes.

After this, the Juniors put on brave faces and stood up in front of their peers, joining the 2026 Head Students on stage at Year 9 assembly. The younger group said that it was the best part of the day and so cool to see how everything runs. They certainly sounded confident, speaking to their audience with ease.

It was also the favourite part of the day for our current Head Students. Joseph says, “It was fun to take them behind the scenes and show what goes into an assembly. It humanises us a bit; we’re not just talking heads standing at the front.”

At the end of the day, Head Students and Junior students came together and reflected. The Year 9s were able to ask the Head Students for leadership tips and offer their feedback for next year’s event.

“I loved the enthusiasm of our ‘shadows’. They were so eager to learn about all the aspects of being a Head Student, and it was awesome to see them gaining more confidence throughout the day,” said Abi.

Thank you to the Academic Council and Head Students for making the day amazing!
