Mā te kimi ka kite, mā te kite ka mōhio, mā te mōhio ka mārama.
Seek and discover. Discover and know. Know and become enlightened.

Recently, our Year 10 te reo Māori students visited Te Tahawai Marae, where they experienced and participated in a genuine pōwhiri. The ceremony was led entirely by students, with Eva Inkster as kaikaranga, Jedd Palmer as kaikōrero, and Kodee Henare supporting with waiata tautoko. All three displayed confidence, skill, and mana.

Guided with aroha and humour by Whaea Ani, students engaged in traditional activities such as tī rākau and tititōrea, learned new waiata, and explored the meaning behind the whakairo in the wharenui.

This day embodied the spirit of the whakataukī: Mā te kimi ka kite, mā te kite ka mōhio, mā te mōhio ka mārama. Through seeking out this experience, students discovered new knowledge, deepened their understanding, and strengthened their connection to te ao Māori.
