Since the end of Term 3, a group of passionate performers in Year 9 and 10 have been steadily rehearsing The Dahlia Cabin, culminating in two performances of the one-night-only show last week. Written and directed by Sofia Tabolt Da Silva, produced by Cossar Salesa-Lee, choreographed by Elaine Ye, and with a lighting/sound design by Sebastian Johnson, this was a powerhouse of our Junior students’ leadership and drive.
Featuring songs from a range of modern Broadway numbers, the play recontextualises these classics into a pastiche of frantic teenagers attempting to escape the confines of their cabin amidst a storm of thunder and insecurities. Initially hesitant, the campers learn to lean on each other and find solace in sharing what they have been keeping hidden inside.
Both shows selling out was an amazing testament to the amount of work required, and the cast/crew’s commitment and perseverance with the rehearsal process has been truly admirable. Thank you so much to the wider school community for their support. The future of performing arts at Pakūranga College is surely in safe hands!
