Last term, we welcomed Year 8 leaders from Farm Cove Intermediate to spend the morning learning from our Head Students and Student Whānau Leaders. Our students ran leadership activities, team-building, and helped our visitors get to know Pakūranga College a little better. We were so glad to be able to inspire some of our future leaders while also helping our current leaders improve their own skills!
Last term, eight student leaders and I from Pakūranga College were given the opportunity to invite 17 Year 8 students from Farm Cove Intermediate for a leadership exchange. The morning consisted of activities designed by Pakūranga College student leaders to help develop and share knowledge on teamwork, problem solving, and leadership.
The day started off with introductory games, consisting of ice breakers which allowed students from both schools to interact with each other, breaking any tension and nerves which may have been present. An activity in which the Farm Cove student leaders excelled was situational awareness. In this activity, the Farm Cove students had to share with the group what they would do in this certain situation and what PakWay value could be related back to it. This encouraged the students to share their understanding of the situations, and showed the different perspectives and stances students would take in these situations.
Overall, the day was an amazing and rewarding experience for both parties and provided the opportunity for students from both Pakūranga College and Farm Cove Intermediate to interact and connect. It was an honour to be able to host the leadership exchange for the Farm Cove students and will be an experience that will be remembered.
