The annual Eastern Zone Speech Competition was hosted by Howick College on the night of Thursday 13 August. Seven local high schools competed in the competition and showcased their exceptional public speakers. Three talented students represented Pakūranga College in the competition. The Year 9 and 10 finalists were the winners of the inter-class Junior Speech Competition held in Week 3 of this term.
Year 9 student, Olive Tainui, presented an engaging and thought-provoking speech that highlighted the differences in the way boys and girls are treated. She came 2nd place and received a certificate.
Year 10 student, Milla Stickland, presented a passionate and topical speech about the colour pink and why a colour shouldn’t define us.
Year 11 student Braydon Tetupu’s creative and thoughtfully written speech was titled Ka mua, ka muri – I walk backwards into the future, reminding us to learn from the past to plan for our future.
It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their talents and to represent their school with pride.
