Underneath the summer sun,
Athletics Day had just begun.
The jumps, the throws, the dusty ground,
The cheers that seemed to echo round.
The music played, the crowd grew loud;
The type of energy that makes you proud.
Then a sudden joy, a juicy treat,
Something cold against the heat.
Colours flying all around;
Blue, green, orange, yellow, red abound.
Nīkau third but full of spark,
Rimu second left its mark,
Orange first, yet everyone knew:
third fields the brightest hue.
With every laugh and every cheer,
It felt like something special was here.
A day of colour, sound, and fun;
A memory that comes close to none.
