On Thursday 16 May, Miriam Chancellor, the director of Naked Audience, graciously volunteered her time to come speak to Senior Business students and to share some of her knowledge. Miriam’s presentation was aimed to enhance our public speaking skills and help the Year 11 Business students for our upcoming pitch in Week 4, as well as our Market Day in Week 9. Year 12 and 13 have a slightly different schedule but this was also beneficial for their classes as well.
During her session, Miriam spoke about and shared practical tips and techniques to help the audience with their upcoming business pitch. She gave us a list of examples mainly highlighting ways that we can enhance our public speaking skills. Firstly, she spoke about the importance of body language. She emphasised the significance of connecting with our audience through eye contact as well as using expressive gestures such as using our hands and holding a good posture. She also highlighted the power of speaking with confidence and projecting our voices.
As we are Year 11 students we are eager to improve in Business. I found her insights and expertise extremely beneficial for my upcoming pitch and Market Day. Miriam Chancellor’s advice to help students succeed and empower them to excel in public speaking is truly admirable. I am genuinely appreciative of her coming and speaking to us. She has equipped us with some extremely helpful advice and she has left a mark on the Business students at Pakuranga College.
