Athletics Day

The sun was shining for Athletics Day and it was fantastic to see students give everything a go across both field and track events. Participation was high and support was loud – ka pai everyone!

Athletics

Representing the Pakūranga Athletics Club, Pōhutukawa athlete Leah Marais, ran like the wind at the Auckland Senior Track and Field Championships at Mt Smart recently, claiming some awesome results. She placed 3rd in the U18 1500m with a time of 4.55.65 and 2nd in the U18 800m with a time of 2.22.67

Leah has only just returned from a grade 1 muscle tear and hasn’t been training at full capacity for the past six weeks. What a comeback, Leah!

Cricket

Ka pai to our 1st XI Boys’ Cricket team for winning their game against Green Bay High School with a 37-run victory. Big-hitter, Blake Mitchell, got his maiden 100 for the team, posting 103 runs not out! An incredible achievement, Blake.

Tennis

A team of of our top tennis players took on the Counties Manukau Tennis Championships in Pukekohe on Tuesday last week! There was lots of tough competition with matches ending in tie breakers, and some epic rallies.

A special mention to Andrew Snijders of Tōtara who secured a silver medal in the Senior Boys’ Singles division after being off the court for three years! What a great way to come back, Andrew!

NZSS Open Water Swimming Championships

Maeve McDonnell represented Pakūranga College at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Open Water Swimming Championships. Here, Maeve competed in all three events for her age group and had a clean sweep!
