Premier Girls
The Premier Girls’ Basketball team nailed a thrilling victory against King’s College on June 20, with a final score of 28-24. Congrats, girls!
Premier Boys
The Premier Boys’ Basketball team has had win after win recently, take a look at the highlights:
- 84-51 victory against Selwyn College
- 88-75 victory against Manurewa High School
- 83-73 victory against Liston College
- 77-67 victory against Orewa College
They’re currently sitting 3rd on the table, keep reaching for the top, boys!
Junior A Boys
Exciting News! Our Junior A Boys’ Basketball team clinched a thrilling victory, defeating Sacred Heart Junior Premier 71-65 to secure their spot in the Greater Auckland Basketball Championships! These will take place on August 16 at Bruce Pulman Arena and if they qualify, the semi/finals will be on August 21. But first, they face Dilworth this Wednesday in the final regular season game. Let’s go boys!
Rugby
1st XV
The 1st XV Rugby team has a solid few wins on the trot, racking up plenty of tries over the past month. Take a look at the results:
- 31-10 win against Mangere College
- 38-19 Victory against Mt Roskill Grammar School
- 25-21 win against Waitakere College
Hockey
1st XI Boys’
Our 1st XI Boys’ Hockey team has had a solid few successes recently, also moving up a grade! In June, they placed 1st in the Auckland Open A Grade qualifiers, earning a spot in the Senior A1 grade. Awesome work boys!
They have also recently won:
- 8-2 against Macleans College before the holidays
- 4-2 against Rangitoto College
- 14-2 against Westlake Boys’
Unstoppable defence and fierce determination have led our 1st XI Girls’ Hockey team to achieve some great wins recently:
- 2-0 victory against Rosehill College before the holidays

Crushing it in the Auckland Hockey Mixed 8-a-side comp! Our team brought their A-game, securing an impressive 3rd-place finish. In their final match, they dominated Onehunga with a stunning 15-1 victory!
During the holidays, Pakuranga College shined at the National U18s Hockey Tournament! Four players from the college represented Auckland:
- Ashley Simango (Rimu), played in the Auckland White Girls’ team.
- Finn Miller (Rimu), and Advait Kuwalekar (Rimu) played in the Auckland White Boys’ team.
- Julius Sailer (Nīkau) played in the Auckland Blue Boys’ team, which placed 1st in the boys’ competition!
- Mr Daniels, our Director of Sport, who was the lead coach for the Auckland boys’ teams.
- Luke Holmes, our 1st XI Boys’ Hockey coach, who was the coach for the Auckland White Boys’ team.
- College physio and alum Jai Hira, who was the team manager for the Auckland White Boys’ team.
Football
Christchurch International Soccer Tournament
Huge shoutout to our stars Cailean Hamilton, Joseph Matthews, Sage Warrington, and Jacob Allison! They played for Fencibles Utd, winning the Christchurch International Soccer Tournament for the second year in a row during the July school holidays. Jacob didn’t let an injury get in the way, helping out with the coaching team! They dominated all six games over three days without conceding a single goal and clinched the final with a 3-0 victory against Nomads Utd.
Special congratulations to Cailean for being named MVP of the tournament!
1st XI Girls’
The team kicked off the term with a stunning 2-1 win against Avondale last week!
Junior Girls’
Our Junior Girls’ Football team had an amazing 7-1 win against Ormiston Junior before the holidays. Keep an eye out, we’ve got some rising stars here!
Gymnastics
CollegeSport Gymsports Championships
In June two of our talented students, Sienna Hands (Rimu) and Stevie-Mae Husband (Tōtara), showcased their skills at the College Sport Gymsports Championships, with some stellar results!
Aerobic gymnastics superstar and Mataī student, Joline Chin, has been on a winning streak, crushing it in three different competitions over the past few weeks! Check out her amazing results:
- Otago Aerobics Championships: 1st in Junior International
- NZSS Aspire AER: 4th in Junior International
- Australian Nationals: 13th in Junior International
Badminton
North Island U19 Open Badminton Competition
Nīkau student, Darren Wee, showcased his incredible skills at the recent North Island U19 Open Badminton competition, claiming some awesome results! He competed in Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles and earned:
- 1st in Mixed Doubles
- 2nd in Men’s Doubles
- 3rd/4th in Men’s Singles
Later that month, Darren Wee scored another Badminton victory! He recently competed at the New Zealand Badminton Junior Team Championships, representing Counties Manukau. His team did an amazing job, finishing 2nd in the U19 division! And a special shout out to Darren’s coach – Ben Yu, an alum of the college!
Ultimate Frisbee
Ultimate Senior Girls Indoor Championships
We sent two girls’ teams to the Ultimate Senior Girls Indoor Championships and racked up some awesome results!
From New Zealand to Birmingham! Pakuranga College Ultimate Captain and Year 13 student Connor Nankivell flew out with the U20 NZ Men’s team (Katipō) to represent New Zealand at the World Junior Ultimate Championships. The NZ squad is currently seeded 6th and faced international powerhouses like Canada, Italy, and Japan in pool play.
Cross Country
North Island Cross Country Championships
Over the holiday, Pōhutukawa student Leah Marais represented the Pakuranga Howick Athletics Club at the North Island Cross Country Championships. Competing in the U16 3km division, she achieved an incredible 1st place with an impressive time of 11 minutes, finishing a remarkable 22 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Amazing job, Leah!
Netball
Premier
Our Premier Netball team dominated the court with a stellar 40-27 victory over Epsom Girls last week! Congrats to our amazing girls for bringing their A-game!
