On Friday 9 May, amidst the rain and the wind, Pakūranga College’s Hall was filled with the warm music of some special guests. A combined Royal New Zealand Navy Band and our own Pakūranga College Concert Band entertained proud parents and music enthusiasts with the sounds of movie soundtracks, swing jazz, and lilting traditional folk music.
Prior to the concert, Navy Band tutors led our students in sectional workshops, developing technical skills, learning performance warm-ups, and getting insight into how to lean into the music together as a band for a tight and cohesive sound.
Pakūranga College would like to thank the Royal New Zealand Navy band for inspiring our students and showcasing what a music career could look like for our aspiring musicians.
