Hip Hop International
The Gounder family is at it again, claiming a swag of hip hop titles at the Hip Hop International New Zealand competition over the holidays! Mataī students, Raūl and Riān, and their younger sister, made themselves at home on the podium with the following results in the NZ Championship division:
1st – Minicrew
1st – Duo
1st – Solo Varsity (Raūl Gounder)
2nd – Solo Varsity (Riān Gounder)

Emily Muir, Ruby Muir, and Emily Cooper also lit up the stage with JD Studios! Their team Rangers took 1st in the Varsity World Qualifier Preliminaries, and Realm (Ruby and Emily’s other crew) also took 1st in the Mini Crew World Qualifier!

This means the girls have been given the green light to head to Phoenix, Arizona, later this year to take on the world!

Incredible achievements from all of you, we’re so proud!

World of Dance

Our dance champions outperformed themselves at the World of Dance NZ Qualifiers recently!

Well done to Tōtara student, Peyton Haugh, and her crew, The Collective, for absolutely smashing it with an incredible 98/100 score. Their team has been fast-tracked straight to the World of Dance Championships in Los Angeles!

Superstars Emily Muir, Ruby Muir, Emily Cooper, Skyler Vollenhoven, Maddy Story, and Isabella Clark placed 4th in the Junior division with their JD Studios crew. They’ve scored a wildcard spot for LA too!

And last but not least, Sonia Poru of Nīkau, along with her sister (and college alum), Bianca Poru, represented Retaliate (Red Studios) and placed 3rd in their division, then backed it up with a 4th place finish at the World of Dance Crew Championships!

The talent here is unreal. LA better be ready, Pakūranga College is coming!
