On Thursday 7 September, the Year 13 Biology classes had an exciting opportunity to explore the Auckland Zoo. Throughout the year, the Biology enthusiasts of 13BIO explored the intricate web of life – from the steamy rainforest to the dripping wet habitats of aquatic creatures, our day was a splash of discovery. We were able to see what we had learned about come to life, including the topic of Human Evolution where we were able to receive a lesson on hominins, and the cultural and biological evolution of humans. This expedition was more than just a field trip; it was an immersion into the wonders of the natural world. Students observed, questioned, and connected with the incredible diversity of creatures. From the majestic tigers to the tiny but mighty insects, every encounter provided a unique perspective on the balance of life on Earth.
We learned about the origins and the evolution of humans, where we came into contact with some real skulls and learned about the tools and techniques of hominins. It was a wonderful experience to go on this trip, especially being able to see what we’ve learned about Biology throughout 2023!
