A massive congratulations to our Ethics Olympiad team, made up of Abby Plom, Cerys Gibby, Tirbhwan Singh, and Hannah Li, who have brought home the second-place prize in this year’s New Zealand-wide domestic competition!
The team connected and competed with around 30 other schools from across Aotearoa, debating eight thought-provoking and ethically challenging topics over the day. Some of the key issues they tackled included banning tobacco use, the rise of AI chatbots and whether it’s ethical to form relationships with artificial intelligence, and the principles of data sharing on social media platforms.
Throughout the day, our students showed impressive teamwork, critical thinking, and moral reasoning. They engaged in thoughtful deliberation, confidently defended their positions, and impressed the judges with their depth of understanding and respectful debate style.
Thanks to their outstanding performance, the team has secured a spot in the international finals, which will take place via Zoom on 24 July. They are thrilled at the chance to go head-to-head with some of the world’s top young debaters and showcase their ethical reasoning on a global stage.
Best of luck in the finals Abby, Cerys, Tirbhwan, and Hannah!
