Head of Guidance & Hauora

Full time, permanent position

We are seeking a full-time Head of Guidance and Hauora to lead our collegial, supportive, and multidisciplinary team.  We want someone who  is innovative in their practice and who is culturally relational to lead with compassion and integrity.

 

You will provide targeted counselling support,  design and deliver proactive programmes across the school and for targeted groups.  You will lead our team of guidance counsellors and youth workers as well as  engaging with wider networks and wrap-around services to  promote emotional and mental wellbeing.

The successful candidate will have proven leadership skills with strengths in culturally responsive approaches to counselling, proven ability to create programmes that engage meaningfully with students and be able to initiate interventions that inspire, motivate, and enable change for good.  A commitment to our culture of care is essential.

 

Commencing in Term 3, you would be responsible for counselling students from Y9–13, including building relationships with the students to promote emotional and mental wellbeing, self-confidence, and resilience. You must be able to work collaboratively with our students, parents, staff, and wider school community, and closely with our school youth workers, nurses, mentors, deans, and senior leadership team.

 

Our ideal applicant will hold NZAC membership (or working towards membership) and be  familiar with school environments. Experience in Social Work or Psychology an advantage.

Salary by negotiation, dependent upon qualifications, skills  and experience.

Teacher Aide

Fixed Term, Term Time Only

 

Pakuranga College is seeking to employ a Teacher Aide to work in the Optimal Learning Centre.

This is a fixed term position for 30 hours per week during secondary school term time only.

Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement and this position has been graded as Grade B and the hourly rate will be based on experience.

 

The position will include tasks such as:

  • Working with students with learning and behaviour needs
  • Attending timetabled classes with students
  • Supporting the needs of students
  • Assisting with Special Assessment Conditions

 

The successful applicant will have:

  • Empathy, tolerance and diplomacy
  • The ability to remain calm and in control
  • A proven history of working with young people
  • Attention to detail
  • The ability to work both independently and as a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills – verbal and written
  • Excellent computer skills

Nurse/Enrolled Nurse

Fixed Term, Term Time Only

Pakuranga College is seeking to employ a nurse or enrolled nurse to assist in our busy Health Centre.

This is a fixed term position for 20 hours per week during secondary school term time only. The hours of work are 5 days per week from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement and this position has been graded as Grade C and the hourly rate will be based on experience.

Please note: We do not have a DHB contract and therefore do not use the MECA rates.

The position will include tasks such as:

  • Ensuring the Health Centre is a welcoming safe space for Students
  • Assessing all students and staff who require medical treatment, making referrals where required
  • Monitor and administering medication and health plans
  • Promoting all available health services, liaising as required
  • Reviewing new students’ health records to identify health needs
  • Identify and refer any at risk students
  • Assist students to make responsible decisions regarding their own health
  • Assist with medical emergencies
  • Maintain and update register of all Health Centre visits
  • Provide updates to the Pastoral Care team
  • Update, maintain and replenish first aid kits

 

The successful applicant will have:

  • A current practicing certificate

  • The ability to work both independently and as a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills – verbal and written
  • Excellent computer skills

  • The ability to maintain confidentiality per College policies, procedures & MoE guidelines
