31 Aug World Vision Award
On Monday 28th August, Pakuranga Interact Club was invited to the World Vision Award Ceremony. Schools and churches from around the upper North Island came together at Elim Christian College to celebrate and honour the change that New Zealanders have ignited in Syrian refugee camps. At this event, we were humbled to be awarded the Outstanding Leadership Award.
The Syrian Refugee Crisis is now in its sixth year, resulting in the deaths of 12,000 children and over 3 million no longer attending school. Through engaging and exciting initiatives at Pakuranga College, including the collaborative “40Min FUNraiser” launch day with youth organisation, ZEAL, and a well-received bake sale, INTERACT displayed the dedication and drive that helped the school to win the award.
As a school, we have raised over $7000 towards creating child-friendly spaces in Syrian refugee camps, bringing back a sense of normality and hope for the future of a forgotten generation.
