23 Oct We Are Bright Awards School of the Year!
The Bright Awards is an annual competition run by Media Design School, New Zealand’s most awarded tertiary digital design institute. It is open to high school students from across the country and recognises Aotearoa’s emerging creative talent.
The competition includes animation, web design, graphic design, photography and game design. This year Pakuranga College entered the Game Design category.
Year 13 student, Yuewei Zhang took home the top prize with his ‘Totally Realistic VR sledding Game’. This was an amazing $1,000 for himself and $3,000 for the school!
The Highly Commended prizes went to Tyler Gamble’s small team (Year 11), who made a flipped-gravity VR climbing game, and Abdul Boateng (Year 10) who made a top-down RPG.
As a result of this sweeping victory, Pakuranga College was awarded ‘Bright Awards School of the Year’! This is a huge achievement and a testament to all of the work the students put into these projects in their free time.
Congratulations must also go to Charlie Smith from our Technology Faculty who runs the Game Development Club, and offers advice and support to students who have an interest in programming for gaming and VR.
