Waste Reduction Project

24 Oct Waste Reduction Project

The Environmental Council has joined the Howick Ward Schools Waste Minimalisation Project. Along with 19 other local schools we aim to reduce the school’s waste by 40%.

The first step in finding out the best solution for our school was to carry out a waste audit of all the rubbish collected around the whole school on one day. It was a pretty smelly job, but members of the Council sorted the waste into organic matter, recyclable paper, comingled recycling, soft plastics and other waste.

Next, we plan to use the data gathered to see how much waste we can recycle and compost.
