Va’a Māori and Pasifika Mentoring Programme Launches

04 Aug Va’a Māori and Pasifika Mentoring Programme Launches

Wednesday 3 August marked the launch of a new mentoring programme at the college, Va’a, which has been spearheaded by Head Students Kayla Ngaropo and Charlotte Tukiri.

A for student, by student programme, Va’a is available to all Māori and Pasifika students who require additional academic support. Va’a is its own aiga – a safe space to learn and embrace cultural roots simultaneously, with kai, kōrero, waiata, and karakia.

Va’a is Samoan for boat, and the objective of the programme is to support Māori and Pasifika students on their learning journey, by providing access to mentors who will help learners reach their destination. Within Va’a, students work alongside Year 12 and 13 Māori and Pasifika mentors, who have been endorsed at Merit or Excellence level, to help set and achieve academic goals.

Va’a takes place every Wednesday from 3.30pm – 5.00pm in the New Building.
