Basketball is one of our strongest and most popular codes at Pakuranga College. The program boasts 20 teams, with over 200 athletes. The Premier Boys’ and Girls’ teams play in the Senior A Premier competition.
Recent success has seen the Premier Boys travel and compete in California, USA and the Premier Girls were winners of the NZSS Nothern Cup Championship in 2017 and 2018.
Josiah Maama oversees the basketball programme at Pakuranga College as well as coaching the Premier Boys’ team. He has been coaching for 8 years, both in New Zealand and abroad.
He was coach for the Auckland-Counties Manukau U19 Boys representative team for a several years, and also worked in Las Vegas, Orlando and California in top level AAU tournaments. In 2015 he was employed as an apprentice coach with the Supercity Rangers in the NZBL, and has also worked with the Basketball New Zealand age group programs, including the Talent ID selection camp in 2019.
In addition to heading up our programme, Mr Maama runs basketball coaching business Glen Innes Rise Basketball with his brother Sione.
