Sports Term 2 Week 7

10 Jun Sports Term 2 Week 7

Kia Ora,

CLICK HERE is this week’s sports draw. Some great results last week.

Of our core sports, all our top/1st/premier teams gained victories. Our boys teams (basketball, football, hockey and rugby) won the battle of East vs West, all beating West Auckland schools.  Meanwhile our girls teams who played last week (Basketball and Netball) joined in on the winning action defeating 2 of our bitter rivals St. Kentigern and Diocesan.

1st XI Hockey Boys defeated Avondale College, 3-1 to qualify for the Supercity Premier grade for the 2nd season in a row. A great achievement with a young squad who lost a lot of experience from 2018.

1st XV Rugby travelled to Waitakere College, and came away with the W in a late game thriller, Lucas Troughear touching down in the dying minutes to win 22-17.

1st XI Boys Football defended home advantage, and dominated another western rival in Kelston Boys, 4-1. They now have moved to 2nd place on the A2 table.

And Premier Boys contributed to the West Auckland demolition, defeating Massey High School at home, year 11 student Jaxon Crowther top scoring with 26 points and 14 rebounds.

Premier Girls Basketball came up with a big upset win over Highway rival St. Kentigern College, year 11 Jordan Koteka dominating in the inside, with support from her team mates in a late game burst to take the fixture, 58-43.

Premier 1 Netball continue their upward form with a good result vs Diocesan School for Girls. A full team effort, with pressure defence applied and a calm approach on offense, with only 12 turnovers conceded in the whole game.

1st XI Girls Hockey, Girls Football and 1st XIII Rugby League games were all deferred from last week to this week.

Also another small success for the sports program, with 9 of our 10 basketball teams all winning their fixtures last week.

Thanks to all the staff involved in coaching, managing and supporting our teams and student athletes in 2019.
