18 Jun SPORTS TERM 2 WEEK 8
Pictured: Congratulations to students (left to right) Wendell Stanley, Kheva Potatau and Tyler Moran who competed in the 34th annual North Island Golden Gloves tournament that was held in Taupo over Queens Birthday Weekend. This is the biggest boxing tournament in Australasia and Wendell, Kheva and Tyler all won gold, making them the current Golden Gloves Champions for their respective divisions. Well done boys! We look forward to following your future successes!
As always, get down and support out teams this week!
Premier Games This Week
Premier Girls vs Birkenhead, 6:00pm, Monday, (Pakuranga Old Gym)
Premier Boys vs Birkenhead, 7:30pm, Monday, (Pakuranga Old Gym)
Our girls had a tough week, facing 2 top 4 teams. However they were resilient and played well in stretches vs Roskill and undefeated Epsom Girls Grammar. In particular, Jordan Koteka controlled the paint and showed her dominance throughout, and Christine Redondo led the injury depleted guard unit well in both games.
The premier boys bounced back with 2 solid wins vs Western Springs and 21st Nationally ranked, Kelston Boys. Jacob Tuisalega exploded for 34 points (vs Springs) and 17 points/14 rebounds (vs Kelston). Year 10 forward, Jaxon Crowther also impressed 17 points in each fixture.
1st XI Boys vs Waitakere, 10:00am, Saturday, (Waitakere Field 1)
1st XI Girls vs Waiuku, 4:00pm, Wednesday, (Massey Park 2)
Both teams will be looking to bounce back from losses last week. Our girls are still learning through the experience of the Counties Manukau Premier competition, but have showed signs of improvement every week.
The 1st XI Boys were unlucky to concede an early goal vs OTHC, which eventually would be the difference at the end. Anton Picton, AGAIN, finding the back of the net. Good luck to both sides this week.
1st XI Girls vs Avondale 1st XI, 5:00pm, Thursday, (Avondale Turf 1)
1st XI Boys vs Rangitoto 1st XI, 5:10, Wednesday, (Lloyd Elsmore Park Turf 1)
The boys were introduced to the top tier of hockey last week, as they took on Westlake Boys up in the shore. Unfortunately going down, they look to bounce back vs another north shore opponent, Rangitoto, this time with home advantage at LEP.
The girls gained a strong 4-0 win over rivals Howick last week. They will try to continue the good form out west when they take on Avondale on Thursday. Goal scorers Alyssa Whelan and Zoe Teikamata will seek more scoring opportunities this week.
Premier Girls vs Mt. Albert Grammar Premier 2, 8:30am, Saturday (AMI Netball Center Court C)
Our premier girls went down to rivals Diocesan in the weekend. Despite the tough loss, our girls are continuing to find consistency throughout the whole 40 minutes. A big shout out to manager Mrs Hillgrove for all her hard work off the court.
1st XIII vs Manurewa, 4:00pm, Wednesday, (Manurewa High School Field 1)
A historic feat last Wednesday, as the team earned the schools first ever Premier Grade league win.
A complete team effort was necessary on topping foe Papatoetoe, with strong contributions from Jacob Hollobon, Stanley Farani and Mark Tuisalega. The squad will try to emulate last weeks efforts vs another South Auckland foe, Manurewa High.
1st XV vs St. Pauls, 12:00pm, Saturday, (St. Pauls Field 1)
A tight finish, going down 19-20 in the local derby vs Macleans.
Melvin Tu’ulaupua led from the front with ball in hand. Our backline defended well most of the game, holding the line forcing Maclean’s to kick penalties. Ethan Laban, Darcy Frost and Sean Daniels with solid efforts in defense in the 2nd half.
Good luck to all teams, players, and staff competing!
