After trailing by 5 goals to Epsom Girls Grammer, the ladies were able to cut the lead and take the game by 1, with some sharp shooting from captain Patricia Furivai, and feeding of the ball from Salote Tameifuna.
The girls now move indoors for the rest of the season at the AMI netball courts in Glen Innes.
Sports Round Up from week 2
This weeks sports theme seemed to be “starting slow”, with many of our premier teams bouncing back from early struggles in their respective games. Here’s a write up of some of the action below!
Our premier boys and girls teams traveled to Mt. Roskill for this weeks premier basketball action.
The girls faced an experience Mt. Roskill Grammar side. After a very slow start, trailing 21-9, the girls piled on points from multiple turnovers and defensive stops.
Great rebounding from Year 9, Jordan Koteka led to fast breaks where wings, Free Downes and Justine Langit were able to score in transition.
Despite the strong fight back, the girls went down in a great effort.
The boys also started slow. After switching to an aggressive pressing defense, the boys came back from 18 points down in the 3rd quarter, to take the lead with 1 minute to go.
Captain Cristian Blanque slashed the defense and fed the ball to his shooters, whilst Aidan Adsett was doing all he could to keep Pakuranga in the game with his rebounding and sharp shooting.
The boys went down by 4 points in what was an epic comeback.
