Procedure for Re-Opening in Level 2

12 May Procedure for Re-Opening in Level 2

The Prime Minister has given schools the go ahead to re-open in Level 2.

All students return to school on Monday 18 May.

The key message from the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Health is that schools are safe. The critical messages for schools remain:

  • Good hygiene practices – regular washing and drying of hands and good cough and sneeze etiquette remain fundamental to preventing spread of illness such as colds, flu and COVID-19.
  • Ensuring people with COVID-19 symptoms stay away from school.
  • Maintaining physical distancing where practical – in schools at Alert Level 2 this means children, young people, and staff maintaining a physical distance so that they are not breathing on or touching each other, (there is no minimum distance requirement for schools at this level).
  • Keeping track of people who enter the school – through the attendance register, timetable and visitor register.

The College is working on a revised Health and Safety Plan which will be available later this week.  Key elements of that plan are:

Before return to school:

  • Physical check of the entire site
  • Thorough clean including disinfectant misting
  • Checking soap dispensers in all toilets
  • Installing hand sanitiser dispensers in all toilets
  • Installing hand sanitiser dispensers in every classroom

Cleaning regime:

  • Daily cleaning to include wiping clean all desks, chair backs and other high-risk surfaces
  • Procedure for the cleaning of shared equipment at the school of every area including keyboards, PE equipment, tools, science equipment etc.

Contact tracing:

  • Obviously, our student attendance system covers all students
  • Restrict access to the site
  • Strict sign-in/hand sanitation procedures for contractors and visitors
  • Parents are asked NOT to come onto the school site

Physical distancing:

In classrooms the Ministry of Health have given new guidelines for school.  Maintaining physical distancing where practical – in schools at Alert Level 2 this means children, young people, and staff maintaining a physical distance so that they are not breathing on or touching each other, (there is no minimum distance requirement for schools at this level).

Our biggest concern

Teenagers being teenagers will be excited to see their friends and will want to high five, hug etc BUT NO TOUCHING!  Parents we need your help to reinforce this message.

  • Students should not be congregating before or after school:
  • No going to Countdown or other shops before school
  • No going to Burger King or other takeaway shops after school
  • Straight to school and straight home

Thursday and Friday this week – with the start of Level 2 many parents will be back at work, the school is available to supervise students which are doing their online learning BUT we need you to register CLICK ON THIS LINK TO REGISTER THEM

Thank you for your support!
