03 Nov Official Opening of New Gymnasium
On Wednesday 26th October, friends of the school, supporters and VIPs were invited to intend the official opening of our brand new, state of the art, double gymnasium. The ribbon was cut by Pakuranga College Olympians Bruce Kendall and Rebecca Linton, as well as our Special Olympians Edward Borkin and Monique Irvine. At the event, a commemorative plaque was unveiled, along with the first part of our ‘donor wall’. Guests were also invited to watch the first ever game of basketball to take place in the new building.
This 1600 sq metre facility accommodates two full size basketball courts and a netball court. It has a fully sprung hardwood floor and electronic scoreboards as well as four changing areas and customised acoustics so that it can be used as an auditorium. On the first floor there are three open-plan classrooms with a covered terrace, offering a fantastic, modern learning space.
The floor of the gymnasium has been reinforced to accommodate both fixed and mobile bleacher seating for spectators. Unfortunately, we do no yet have the funds for this, but we are working on it. Any support you can give us in raising the money for bleachers would be very welcome indeed!
