Marae Trip

12 Apr Marae Trip

On Friday March 29th, Whānau tutor went to Kawhia. We spent three days there and stayed at Mokai Kainga Marae.

We discussed things like, history of the marae and, the relationship that Pakuranga College has with the marae, (which goes back about 20 years) the local area. We visited the Kawhia township and went to see Tangi-te-korowhiti – where the Tainui waka first landed – and the burial place of the Tainui waka. We also took a trip to the beautiful Aotea Harbour.

New members to Whānu tutor were also taught the school haka, which they performed at the poroporoaki on Sunday afternoon.  Everyone had a lot of fun and we are all very excited to go back next year. Ngā mihi nui ki a Matua Nick rāua ko Whaea Linda mō ō rāua manaakitanga i taua wā ki Mokai Kaing
