19 Nov International Student Prizegiving
An assembly was held last week to farewell our Year 13 international students and reward those who have worked hard all year.
Despite the interruptions to class time caused by Covid 19, this year’s international students have gained some of the best results ever. Graduation teddy bears, wearing caps and gowns and Pakuranga College T shirts, were presented to a record number of 28 students. These were students who had passed every internal credit entered so far this year, plus those who had already passed NCEA Level 3 with 80 credits prior to sitting externals. These very cute bears are highly sought after every year.
We are also very proud to announce that International Head Student, Leo Liu, was not only awarded the Top International student Award at the College’s Senior Prizegiving, but also the prestigious Rotary Club Trophy and Prize. This is awarded to the student who ‘demonstrates significant leadership and leadership development within the College’. Leo has been with us since Year 9 and is truly deserving of this award.
During the assembly, students were also given advice about staying in NZ during the upcoming summer holidays and encouraged to take part in seasonal family activities. For many of our students this will be the first summer holiday period they spend in NZ rather than going home to their families overseas. Our closed borders have certainly changed daily life for many of us.
We wish all our international students a safe and happy holiday season!
