23 Oct Inter-House Mathex Competition
On Wednesday 16th October, the Inter-house Mathex Competition was held at lunchtime in the school Hall. Thirteen teams from the six school houses took part.
This was a dynamic competition, taking 30 minutes, where teams of four complete 20 mathematics questions. Each team has a runner to deliver the questions and collect the next question. The scoreboard, created by Lauren Parker, allowed real time scoring to be projected for all to see. Mr Dama provided music and a running commentary to further add to the exciting atmosphere.
The results are as follows: 1st Matai with 100%; 2nd Pohutukawa with 100% and 3rd Totora also with 100%. Five teams, representing five houses gained 100%, so placings were based on the time taken. Speed can also depend on the speed of the Mathex Markers, which is just like the inter-school competition. There is always the element of luck, as well as expertise and running speed, which contributes to the final placings.
A big thank you to all the students and staff who helped make this event a success. Well done Matai House, as they also won this competition in 2018!
