25 Oct History Trip to Orakei Marae
Year 11 History students were honored to be welcomed on to Orakei Marae in term 3 to hear about the 1977-78 Bastion Point occupation and forced evictions.
Students had learnt about the occupation of Bastion Point earlier in the year and were able to hear stories and memories from Ngāti Whātua iwi members who had been directly affected.
Students participated in a powhiri and flax weaving class and were also able to enjoy the beautiful grounds of Orakei Marae. The trip enabled History students to explore and learn where historical events of great importance had taken place!
