This is an opportunity for Māori students and their parents to meet and listen to a variety of speakers. You will also be invited to provide feedback regarding how the school can best support the learning of Māori students.
Here is what students said about the experience last year:
“(I learned that) Practice is key to achieving success and excellence. Also, never give up on your dreams/goals.”
Liam Nicholls (Year 12)
“The hui made me think twice about what and how I move towards my life goals and by hard work I can make a change. All the guest speakers had something inspirationally to say that I took on board that was helpful for me to learn from.”
Phoenix Hippolite (Year 13)
“Reti inspired me to be proud of who I am and where I come from and encouraged me to learn more about my heritage.”
Darcy Wiki (Year 13)
“Reti spoke about heritage and it inspired me to learn more about mine.”
Chelsea Coleman (Year 11)
“What inspired me was the part when Reti and Matangaro talked about identity and about being Māori and having support from family around you. The encouragement of our reo and what we can do to keep it from dying out. Also how we are able to become who we want, but should stick with the roots of our Māori. Finding love in something that encourages you to be who you are and the ability to keep your reo.”
Chrystal Mana (Year 13)
