This has been planned since last year.

While this is unfortunate in the light of the disruption caused by the industrial action it is an important day for the teaching staff.  We do put high priority on learning for all, including the teachers and this day is important for their ongoing learning and development.  This will have a direct benefit for students in the classroom.
