22 Oct Epro8 2020
We had the privilege this year of hosting the final EPro8 senior competition for the Auckland region. This is an inter-school science and engineering competition that runs through the year, across the whole of New Zealand. For 2020 there were close to 50 teams that competed in the heats for the Auckland based competition.
The final was held on 13 October and attended by 11 senior teams from the Auckland region, including two of our own teams. Our two teams included eight of our very talented Year 13 students: Beth Cutler, Hannah Young, Lauren Parker, Jordan Kanon, Jeremy Ishi, Connor Williams, Jaap Skinner and Joshua Morley.
The theme for the challenges was interesting with teams having to “pimp” their scooters, curtains, toasters and toilets! Our teams did well on the night with a final result of third place for Jaap, Joshua, Connor and Jeremy, marginally missing out on second place.
Teachers and caregivers were awed by the practical skills, creativity, problem solving and time management from all participants as they focused and worked tirelessly for two and a half hours. This is a great example of our learning value waihanga (create). Ka pai to our teams, you made us proud!
