02 Jul Dance Workshops
Our Dance students were very fortunate to experience a day of dance workshops with Xavier Breed.
Xavier will be graduating with a Masters of Dance Studies in September 2020 with a focus on cultural understanding through dance in the context of international diplomacy. Xavier was also the director for his own Māori-Pasifika project-based dance collective ‘MANU’, aimed at bringing together students and graduates from performing arts schools in Aotearoa.
Students were challenged to explore new ways of moving, expand their dance vocabulary and extend their dance techniques. We appreciate Xavier’s involvement in the community, and the experiences and joy that his workshops bring to our Dance students. Our students look forward to future workshops with Xavier.
“I found Xavier’s lesson motivating and encouraging and I went out of my comfort zone. I got to learn different styles and it was fun.” Krupa Patel – Year 12 Dance
“My name is Lucy and I am a Year 13 dance student who had the opportunity to do a workshop with Xavier (an outside choreographer). He has taught my class before in year 10 and I remember how amazing it was, and how he really pushed my contemporary knowledge and skills.
This year when I heard he was coming back, I was extremely excited to push myself even more and grow as a dancer. Xavier really expanded my skills and I got out of my comfort zone and just went for it. The experiences I have had with Xavier has definitely made me grow as a dancer and I can’t wait to work with him again in the future.” Lucy Sutton – Year 13 Dance
“I really enjoyed having Xavier come in. Although the dance was taught quite fast I really enjoyed it. Xavier had some activities that were really fun and got us moving and working together. I’d like to thank the teachers and Xavier for the experience”. Stacey Erasmus – Year 10 Dance
“I found Xavier’s session the other day lots of fun, and it was good to try something different”. Kayla Williams – Year 10 Dance
