02 Aug Champion Pianist Inspires Through Her Love of Music
A fantastic achievement for Year 10 student Gina Gao, who during the last school term holidays, attended two piano competitions: West Auckland Performing Arts Competition (WAPAC) and The South Auckland Performing Arts Competition (SAPACS), these competitions lasted for 3 days: from July 17th to 19th.
In WAPAC, Gina received the overall high scorer’s cup for the competititor with the highest combined total from age 14 to 16 competitors, Baroque or Classical/Romantic or Modern.
In SAPACS, Gina was awarded the first prize for the 20th Century/Contemporary section for 14 and 15 year olds. (Phot0: Gina Gao and the competitions adjudicator).
“I have been playing the piano since I was 6 years old. I have loved it ever since because the piano is such an an amazing instrument”, said Gina, who wants to be a pianist, and inspire people by sharing her love of music.
Gina did just that at the recent competitions, performing Mozart’s Sonata, Mazurka by Chopin, Bach’s Italian Concerto and The Cat and the Mouse by Aaron Copland.
“I believe that practice makes perfect, so that’s why I always do my best to put in the effort every single day. Whether I receive a prize or not, I always learn from every competition I attend.”
Congratulations and we can’t wait to see what else you achieve in the future!
