Bastion Point Trip

14 Mar Bastion Point Trip

On 13th March, Year 11 history students visited Bastion Point in Ōrākei as part of their study of protest movements.

In the picture above you can see our guide, Te Arohanui Hawke, telling the students about the history of the protest and how the occupation of Bastion Point lasted for 507 days in 1977/78. Te Arohanui’s whanau were at the heart of leading the protest and he spoke with great empathy, insight and knowledge. We all learned a great deal.
