
01 Aug Mr Breed’s Band Takes Top Honours
Head of Music at Pakuranga College, Mr Richard Breed, is also a busy musician outside of school. In his spare time he is President of and principal trumpet for the West City Band.
We were delighted to discover that this band took out top honours at the recent New Zealand Concert Band Association Festival. The NZCBA Festival began in 1988, with the aim to challenge, inspire, and connect concert bands throughout New Zealand.
The West City Band took home the following prizes:
- Gold Award
- Style Award for the Excellent Performance of an Original Concert Band Work: ‘Asphalt Cocktail’
- Robert Lutt Trophy for Best Performance of a Piece by a Band: ‘Riften Wed’
- RNZNB Trophy for the overall most ‘Outstanding Performance by a Band’
In addition, the West City Youth Concert Band was awarded:
- Gold Award
- Adjudicators Commendation for Gold Award
Quite a list of accolades! We are all extremely proud of Mr Breed on his fantastic achievement.
