2017 Mathematics Olympiad

26 May 2017 Mathematics Olympiad

Congratulations to Samuel Chen who was placed third in the senior division of the Auckland Mathematics Olympiad. This is an outstanding result, placing Samuel among the top Mathematics students in the Auckland region.

The competition is run annually by staff and students at the Department of Mathematics at Auckland University and has challenging Olympiad style questions for students to solve which are then marked on the spot. Over a two hour period Samuel and our other participants competed in the individual competition against more than 100 strong mathematicians from other Auckland schools. Altogether, nine Pakuranga College students took part. Our junior team (Years 9 to 11) comprised Kiki Su, Jeremy Ishi, Matthew Creahan, Max Chen and Songyan Teng. Four students made up our senior team (year 12 and 13). They were Yatai Tian, Ricky Huang, Blake Ou and Samuel Chen.
