14 Apr 12PEO Testing Limits and Learning Life Skills
Our Year 12 Outdoor Education students stepped out of their comfort zones during a recent three-day trip to Rotorua. After first learning white water rafting techniques at Wero Whitewater Park in Manukau, these were put into practice at Kaituna Cascades on their Grade 5 river rapids, just outside of Rotorua. There were plenty of thrills and happily not too many spills, as everyone used their learning to navigate the rafts safely through the course.
Students also tested their survival skills in preparation for an upcoming four-day tramp in Whirinaki Bush. This meant preparing their own shelter and feeding themselves – putting up tents and cooking meals – at our Rotorua campsite throughout the entire trip. It required plenty of teamwork and the end results were good, with full tummies each night. All our students impressed and contributed to a fantastic trip experience.
