Students in the digital classes bring their own computer to school each day and use it to access their learning in their core classes - English, Maths, Social Studies, Health & Physical Education and Science.
These students learn the same curriculum as all other students, however their teachers have designed the courses to take advantage of digital technology and resources. Students use the computers in a variety of ways, such as using online resources, preparing work digitally and working collaboratively online.
Based on research in New Zealand and overseas, we believe that the digital revolution has happened. We must now teach our learners digitally and non-digitally in order to help them learn better and to prepare them for life - now and beyond school as they progress to futher study and enter the workforce.
The digital classes programme is our flagship strategy for engaging students in a 21st century learning environment. Because the students have their netbooks with them in all of their core classes, the lessons are increasingly designed to make use of the computers.
This does not mean that students only use their computers for school work. Students still discuss issues in class, and use pen and paper where appropriate. The vital difference is that students have their computers with them every day, and so teachers are able to plan their lessons to take advantage of this.

2012 will be the third year that we run digital classes. We have timetabled 6 digital classes, and expect this number to grow further in the years ahead. It is our expectation that the majority of students at our college will very soon bring their own computer to school.
In 2012, students in the digital classes will purchase their own devices following guidelines from us. Students may bring any digital device to support their learning, but must be aware that the college does not allow charging at school, or provide storage for students' devices. You must ensure that your computer's battery life will last the whole day at school, and that your child is able to easily carry the device around. See the digital guidelines for more information about this.
We have also arranged with Cyclone Computers to provide parents with an online shop that will sell the college's recommended range of digital devices at competitive prices. We have also negotiated with Cyclone Computers to provide telephone support, insurance and trade-in options.
