Level 2 Computer Studies Technology (12COM)

This course offers students the opportunity to learn skills in the computer science and information area of
computing. The content covered forms the foundation for a possible level 3 course in 2013

You will learn to:
• develop understanding of concepts in computer science, including algorithms, programming language concepts and data structures
• develop your problem solving skills using the technology process
• apply a set of techniques to produce a digital media outcome that meets specifications
• design an advanced algorithmic structure
• use a programming language (such as Java) to solve problems

Due to changes currently being made to level 2 standards by NZQA, there may be some minor changes to this course in 2012.


Level 3 Computing and Information Technology (13CIT)

This course continues on from 12CIT.

After this initial unit standard, the class will be divided into two groups. One group will do unit standards and one group will do achievement standards. The teacher will invite advanced students taking the achievement standards to do a scholarship.

This is a mixed course of achievement standards and unit standards that can be used for University Entrance. 

You will learn to:
• develop skills in design and excel spreadsheets
• design and create a website for a stakeholder
• solve an ICT problem for a real stakeholder
• write a fully referenced essay after interviewing two technologists
Prerequisites: completed 12CIT, 12BCT or 12COM and have level 1 literacy


Level 3 Beginners Computing and Information Technology (13BCT)

This course is designed for students who have not previously taken a computing course but would like to learn some computer skills in a range of software programs.
