HOD: Mr K Kandasamy
What does hosting Rugby World Cup 2012 mean for tourism in New Zealand? With the influx of foreign visitors, how
will New Zealand cope? Will adequate capital be generated to cover the huge expenses associated with hosting the
event? Is it acceptable for tourism providers to increase their prices to capitalise on the World Cup?
Tourism Studies answers these difficult and often controversial questions. This course is a valuable stepping stone
to the travel and tourism industry, where the world is your office. Imagine waking up every morning in a different
part of the world. Tourism Studies makes this possible. Even for students not looking for a career in the travel and
tourism industry, this diverse course offers a range of skills and knowledge that contribute positively to many other
subject areas.
Students completing this course over years 12 and 13, can qualify for a National Certificate in Tourism (Introductory Skills).
